Yesterday in Issoudun, Giovanni Vercammen (Chief Energy & Technology Officer and Managing Director at Boortmalt) and Pierre de Montlivault (Regional Director, Dalkia Centre-West) signed the agreement marking the launch of Boortmalt’s new biomass project.
The Issoudun malting plant has always been at the forefront of decarbonisation. In the 2000s, it built a cogeneration unit, then installed its first biomass unit in 2013. More recently, in 2021, the site commissioned one of Europe's largest solar thermal plants. Thanks to these successive investments, the heat usage at the Issoudun malting plant has a 50% decarbonisation potential.
This new biomass unit marks a significant step in our Issoudun strategy to reduce CO₂ emissions per tonne of malt produced by 85% by 2030. At the group level, Boortmalt is targeting a 42% reduction in carbon emissions by 2035.
Dalkia’s expertise, particularly in delivering a constant and reliable heat supply, has been a key factor in the success of this project. That is why we would like to once again thank Dalkia for their valuable support in the creation of this biomass unit. Many thanks as well to our Group Energy and Issoudun teams for their investment and dedication to this project.
