Boortmalt's Peated Malt & Waterford

Boortmalt's facilities in Glenesk maintain a tradition, the know how to produce peated malt. 
 
Peated malt is produced from peat which smoulders to produce the right concentration of smoke over a 12 hour period, during kilning, to add the rich aroma and flavour to the malt as required by customers. Skilled human intervention is required to produce the correct level of smoke by controlling the intensity of the fire. 
 
Since 2015 Boortmalt has been applying this expertise within the Waterford Distillery supply chain, which is fully traceable from field to distillery, along every step of the process.
