Inaugurated last week, this Volvo FH Electric Truck represents one step towards decarbonising our malt supply chain thanks to transport electrification!
This truck, developed in partnership with Bartrums Training, aims at ensuring deliveries to customers in East Anglia and beyond from our site in Bury St Edmunds (the biggest maltings in East Anglia), as well as bringing barley to the site from our network of suppliers and stores.
With a capacity of 80,000km per year without diesel, this vehicle will emit a carbon footprint 75% lower than diesel trucks for the same amount of km. The truck is also significantly quieter, making it more comforting for the ears of our local community during deliveries.
With more electric trucks in the pipeline and a biogas truck running between one of our Scottish sites and distilleries, we aspire effectively to decarbonise our transportation chain.
We will continue to push for lower carbon malt deliveries as well as to decarbonise our malting plants in line with our ambitious SBTI commitments, including a 50% reduction in our carbon footprint by 2030 and carbon neutral plans which are in place beyond.
