Group Sustainability Manager

Focus: Performance, Data & Methodology

Boortmalt is looking for a hands-on sustainability performance expert to own the numbers behind our climate and environmental commitments.
Boortmalt has SBTi-approved targets, sustainability-linked financing and externally assured reporting across our 25 plants globally. We report in line with CSRD/ESRS and the GHG Protocol, and disclose through CDP Climate and Water and EcoVadis. Our largest emissions sit in agricultural supply chains (Scope 3 FLAG: forest, land and agriculture), and we are moving our inventory to align with the GHG Protocol Land Sector and Removals Standard (LSRS).

Why this role matters

You are Boortmalt's technical anchor for sustainability data and methodology. You own how our performance is calculated, whether it is robust, and what it tells us. You report to the Chief Sustainability Officer and lead the data, methodology and insight behind our sustainability performance and disclosures. You work alongside a fellow Group Sustainability Manager, who leads disclosure, ratings and claims governance, and partner with teams across the business, from farms to production plants to customers.

What you will do

- GHG and FLAG inventory: Own the corporate GHG inventory (Scopes 1–3, including FLAG). Lead the LSRS transition with our external methodology partner, steering and challenging consultants so that ownership and capability stay in-house.
- Methodology and KPIs: Define and document emission factors, boundaries, baselines and recalculation rules. Calculate SBTi and sustainability-linked loan KPIs, and prepare methodology choices for decision by the CSO. Provide the baselines and scenario analysis behind our net-zero target.
- Data backbone: Maintain and improve the data architecture for energy, GHG, water and waste. Set validation, controls and audit trails, working with data owners in the Agriculture and Energy Transition teams, Operations, Procurement, Finance and IT. Ensure that farmer and cooperative programme data, collected by the Agriculture team, continuously meets our inventory and claims requirements.
- Performance insight: Build dashboards and analysis that explain what drives results, including the impact of site decarbonisation projects, and give concise recommendations to leadership.
- Assurance evidence: Own the technical evidence and audit trail for environmental metrics.
- Product footprints and claims evidence: Calculate product carbon footprints and define evidence requirements for low-carbon and regenerative agriculture claims, so Key Account Managers can share them with confidence.
- Water and nature: Lead the water risk assessment across sites and supply base using WRI Aqueduct, drawing on site and project knowledge from water engineering.
- Evolving agenda: Take on new projects, metrics and KPIs as our sustainability journey and external requirements evolve, and share workload with your fellow Group Sustainability Manager when priorities peak.

- Sound methodological judgement, and the ability to give a clear recommendation and hold a technical position when challenged
- A learning, team-first mindset: you actively build expertise in new areas such as land-sector accounting, adapt to shifting priorities and step in to support colleagues
- Fluent English; French or Dutch is a strong plus

Nice to have, or eager to learn:
