Boortmalt and Diageo rewarded John Lancaster from Enniscorthy, Co. Wexford for the Irish Malting Barley Excellence Awards 2023, faithful to their yearly tradition.
The annual award highlights the essential role played by the best local producers of Ireland in preserving the sustainable supply chain of Irish malting barley. Over 900 growers and seed producers from the local Irish malting scene competed for this year's edition.

Chief operations and agriculture officer at Boortmalt, Peter Nallen, expressed his gratitude towards all the malting barley growers, adding that "crop 2023 was very challenging for all concerned but the strength and robustness of the local malting barley supply chain ensured we were still able to source 100% of our malting barley requirements from locally grown Irish malting barley."
This award follows Boortmalt's sustainable strategy in Athy. As explained by Peter Nallen:
