Description of role

Your role is to ensure that the site is, on a batch by batch basis, achieving it's First Time Right (FTR) quality target & to deliver blended product which meets customer requirements, and our business requirements, by optimising the efficiency of the operational performance. 
You also supervise all elevator and malt house operations at the plant.


Main tasks: 

Leading by example to drive safety awareness and actively promote an open and proactive approach to safety on site to ensure that safety is the number one priority on site.
Ensures that all activities required to produce malt are compliant with the relevant SHE site rules. 

BOPEX (Operational Excellence)
Use OPI data to make fact-based decisions for process improvements. 
Develop process KPI’s & data sets to optimise process capability based on the potential of the raw material.
Maintain and organise comprehensive suites of accurate data to enable fact-based decisions to be made. 
Apply CI techniques to identify areas for improvement and to optimise operational performance – quality, cycle times, utility usages etc. 
Walk the CI talk via daily meetings with local team. 

Quality, Food Safety & Customer Service 
Ensures that all activities required to produce malt are compliant with the relevant food safety rules. 
Ensures that the plant always produces batches and delivers blends of product to meet customer & business specifications right first time.
Be a Leader for continuous improvement in malt quality and through developing a comprehensive knowledge of the process and fully understanding the key characteristics & potential in the raw material. 
Build strong inter-relationships with our customers to fully understand their product specification and service requirements from a technical and operational perspective. 
Be competent & confident to lead customers/visitors around the site and be the local site lead during customer and business audits.   
Ensure that raw material selection, processing of product and planning are lean (zero waste) and always meets customer and business requirements.
Reporting of Operational Performance and adherence to product specifications and budgets.   
Undertake root cause analysis of any out of standard/target result and recommend effective corrective & preventive actions to avoid re occurrence plus communication of same to team and site management.

As a minimum, ensure that the activities on site never exceed our environmental impact consent levels and ensure our production is always in accordance with our stated CSR/sustainability ambition.  
Work with colleagues to find ways to reduce the environmental impact of the activities on site on year to year basis

People Management 
A leader with strong people management and communication skills.
Capable of coaching all staff on site to ensure they fully understand all processes in line with site procedures
Reviews the performance of all reports and assesses training and development needs for all reports and follows-up on the execution of these plans 

This position does require after hours call ins and periodic weekend shifts.

Required skills

Professional Bachelor and /or post High-School education in Engineering, Bio-Chemical Engineering, Agronomical / Agricultural Sciences, Engineering, Malting/Brewing or equivalent related field

Minimum 3 yrs of experience in supervisory roles within the Operations area of a Food business related industry, with preferably knowledge of malting and brewing 
Should be able to demonstrate the broad range of skills required in this challenging role.
On day to day basis using Continuous Improvement (CI) Tools –Six Sigma Green/Black Belt is advantageous.

Fluent Dutch and English. 
Competent in the use of MS Office – especially manipulating data in excel
