ATO,
Associated Terminal Operators
The company ATO was created jointly with IFB
(belgium company).
This multimodal (road, rail, water way) has
got a storage capacity of 80,000 containers.
Erwin Veuskens
Chief Operations
Officer-Terminals
"Being one of the biggest container
ports in Europe, a weekly departure to any destination
can be guaranteed. We handled some 170 000 containers,
60% of which were filled with bags. We estimate
that this figure will rise in the near future,
and it was therefore obvious for us to invest
together with IFB, a subsidiary of NMBS (Belgian
Railways), in a new container terminal. More
and more containers are shipped via the left
bank and transport using barges means a substantial
discount in transport costs. Good logistics
is of increasing importance".
